Abstract

The current study aims to build a measure of mental toughness to measure the percentage of mental toughness among middle school students and to identify the significance of the differences according to the variable of gender (males - females) and branch (literary-scientific). To achieve these goals, the researcher proceeded to build a measure of mental toughness, which consists of (47)  An item distributed over four dimensions: (Control - 12 items), Commitment - 12 items, Challenge - 11 items, and Confidence - 12 items. It was applied to a random sample of sixth-grade middle school students in the scientific and literary streams for both genders, chosen using a stratified random sample of a size (  6000) students, (284) males, including (107) from the literary branch and (177) from the scientific branch, and (316) females, (101) literary and (215). Chosen from the community of middle schools in the center of Basra Governorate.  After statistical analysis procedures and extracting the validity and reliability values ​​of the scale, the following results showed



  • Sixth grade middle school students have a high level of mental toughness.

  • There are no statistically significant differences according to the gender variable.

  • There are no statistically significant differences according to the branch variable (literary - scientific).
